TTD in Tirumala to use 50 electric vehicles for official use

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is all set to deploy electric vehicle as per the government directive of state government of Andhra Pradesh. The temple management will use electric cars for commuting which will be hired on a monthly basis from Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL), Initially, they will deploy 50 vehicles each in selected areas, including the TTD and New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (NREDCAP) will pay EESL Rs 20,000 per vehicle per month and give another Rs 20,000 per month to the departments concerned to pay for the driver and maintenance costs. The hired drivers will be given special orientation on the use of batteries and gears in the new vehicle. After six years, the ownership of the vehicles will transfer to the state government. The running cost of vehicles will be less than Rs. 2 and the vehicles will have a range of 120 kms and can be recharged in 6 hours.
