About the Company :
Ashok Leyland was born on 1948 in Chennai to assemble Austin Cars. However, later in 1955 it tied up with British Leyland to produce commercial vehicles and from thence the journey had been long to become one of the leader in trucks and buses in the country. It had become part of Hinduja group when a joint-venture of Hinduja and Iveco took over Ashok Leyland. The company had around 500,000 vehicles on the road and is also exported world over.
In December 2016, the company has announced completion of separation formalities for dissolving ventures with Nissan Motors.
In August 2017, the company has received an order worth Rs. 1200 million from logistics firm Rivigo. The order is for 500 fully-built commercial vehicles equipped with Ashok Leyland’s iEGR
In January 2018, the company has received order from VRL Logistics for supply of models and (600 each) . The value of order is estimated at Rs. 3500 million
In August 2018, the company ‘s subsidiary Optare PLC has received order for 31 units of electric double-decker buses from Transport for London (TfL). The order is for 31 Optare Metrodecker EV double-decker buses to be bought by Metroline which will be added to London’s fleet by 2019.
In November 2019, the company is planning to invest over ₹ 7,000 crore to set up a truck building unit in Madhya Pradesh.
