Mahindra & Mahindra ties up with LG Chem for Li-Ion cell development

Mahindra and Mahindra has tied up with LG Chem – for development of a unique cell exclusively for India. LG Chem will develop a unique cell exclusively for India application and will also supply Li-ion (lithium-ion) cells based on NMC (nickel-manganese-cobalt) chemistry with high energy density. M&M will deploy these cells in the Mahindra and SsangYong range of electric vehicles. Currently, M&M is setting up a battery production line with a capacity of 0.5 million battery modules per annum and is expected to go operational by 2020.
