Mercedes Benz, successful model GLC SUV is in great demand. It has been produced at its Bremen lead plant as well as in Beijing /China, Finland and Pune in India. With China US trade war, importing the same into US market does not make sense with a stiff tariff barrier.
Exporting the same from Chakan production plant in Pune makes sense as other options are through contract manufacturers. The move will immensely benefit in improving the image of Indian production quality. Currently, the localization of Indian Mercedes cars are around 50% will also help the local industries. Mercedes-Benz India has a capacity of 20,000 units at its Chakan plant and the company had invested close to ₹ 1,600 million in 2015 where the production capacity has been increased to 20000 units of which 75% is utilized.
